Excellent experience. Tidy, clean and sizeable rooms with really comfortable beds. It was a very friendly environment and service was outstanding. A personal highlight would be the breakfast which was really good. Would definitely recommend this as a place to stay when in Durham.
First time in England and I have had a blast! Such a lovely pub with lovely people even though I got mistaken for a stripper I had so much fun and I will never forget this place I'm definitely going back to this place again Cheers
For price n breakfast and how tidy room was an absolute steal , I also stayed for Sunday lunch which was absolute a dream , the landlord james was friendly and funny and Sarah was a pleasure to mo meet .. family run pub loved it i even met Winston the puppy thank you for having me
Kind and considerate service! James & Sarah are great folks who welcome well and go the extra mile to make you feel at home. From staying up for a past-midnight check-in and offering me a late meal on top of it to blessing me an extra drink at the bar, they’re lovely people you’d be lucky to host you anywhere.
Great value for money and rooms really good for the price and had everything we needed. Particularly liked large bedside table space and conveniently place bedside plug sockets and plenty of coat hooks in room and en suite. Quite a large telly too. Room and ensuite shower werent huge but more than adequate for our stay. Full english was decent too, again great value given the price. Location worked for us and parking was easy albeit not a dedicated car park for the pub. Advertised check-in was a bit later than most places we've stayed (4pm) but they didnt mind when we turned up a little early. Sunday breakfast time of 7-8am was a bit brutal too but worth it.
My second time at Gilesgate and if anything it was better than the first. Hosts James and Sarah make everyone so welcome its almost like being part of the family. The rooms are clean, everything works as it should and the bed was comfortable. But its the ambience of the place where it scores highly. Outside it looks like a pub, but inside its such a great place to be. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 day stay and on occasion even passed on the pleasures of Durham to spend more time in the hotel. I have to say that Sarah's breakfasts are outstanding and I look forward to the day when they start doing evening meals. I certainly intend to go back. Thank you once again James and Sarah.

Had the pleasure of visiting GMH for Sunday Lunch (party of 4) - food was exemplary, cooked to perfection! It was lovely to have fresh veg served at the table along with top notch Yorkshires and a choice of meats, again all delicious! We will be back!!! Based my review on Sunday lunch only as didn’t stay in hotel altho my son stayed a while back and was very impressed with standard of service throughout!!!
